Formula for the volume of a sphere:

V = 4/3 πr^3

V stands for volume

r = radius of the sphere

To clearly understand its application, refer to the example below.

Example:

Determine the volume of a snowball with a diameter of 10 cm.

The shape of a snowball is spherical therefore, we can use the formula for the volume of the sphere.

Since we are given the diameter, we must find for the radius.

d =10 cm

d = 2r

r = d/2

r = 10/2

r = 5

Now we can easily solve the volume of the sphere.

V = 4/3 πr^3

V = 4/3 π(5cm)^3

V = 125/3 cm^3 π

V = 130.9 cm^3
