The nucleus contains a positively charged particles, making the atom neutrally charged.

There are many models that was theorized for the composition of the atom, such as John Joseph Thompsons Plum Pudding Model, where he states that an atom is consists of a positively charged particles, and negatively charged particles that were scattered about in an atom like raisins to a pudding. Another Model was conceptualize by Ernest Rutherford, where he states that an atom has a positively charged nucleus, and the negatively charged particles are scattered in the area of the atom, but mostly the atom is consists of empty space.

Despite these concepts, the accepted model that is used today is the modern atomic model. The modern atomic model states that an atom has a positively charged nucleus, and a negatively charged region in which there are enough electrons to make the atom neutral.
