Distance “d” between two parallel lines

y = mx + c1 and y = mx  + c2 are given by

d = |C1–C2|/√(A^2 + B^2 )……(1)

Or

d = |c1–c2|/√(1+m^2).

So by the given equations

y=-x, here m=(-1),a=-1,b=-1,c1=0

y=-x-4,  here m=(-1),a=-1,b=-1,c2=-4

By using equation (1)

d = |0–(-4)|/√((-1)^2 + (-1)^2 )

d=4/√(2)

d=2√2
