(-1/6)2 + 5/8(-1/9)

Equation:

Multiply each number to it's corresponding parenthesis.

=(-1/6)2 + 5/8(-1/9)

=-2/6 + (-5/72)

-2/6 can be lowered to ⅓ by dividing both numbers by 2

= -⅓ - 5/72

Find the LCD of both fraction in order to subtract directly. Notice that 72 is divisible by 3 which is 24, so the least common denominator is 72.

Therefore the denominator of -⅓ will be 72, 72 divided by 3 is equal to 24 multiplied to its numerator which is negative 1, so the numerator will be -24

The first fraction will be -24/72

Now both fractions can be solved since they have a common denominator.

=-24/72 - 5/72

=-29/72
