given equation:- p^2+4p=1

to completing the square, we have to make some changes that not effect the equation it means we have to add or remove something in both left and right side .

so what we can do here?

in left side we can make a square like (x+y)^2 and to do this we have to use a number that is a square  that is a number .

we can use number 4 by adding both sides :-

p^2+4p+4=1+4

left side we get (p+2)^2= p^2+4p+4 so, next we can write this:-

(p+2)^2=5

to remove square in left side we have to divide the power of both side by 2 .

(p+2)^2/2=5^½

p+2=5^½

p= -2+ 5^½
