Mean, Median,  Mode are known as measure of centre because it tell us about the middle or  center of a distribution.

Mean is often called the average. In mean we add all the values and divide it by the number of values. This is not appropriate when the values are not equally distributed through the range, means there are small and large values.

For small and large values a better way to calculate is the median. To get he median we have to line up all the values in order of size and select the middle one.

The mode is probably the best for skewed distributions. We sort the values into equal-width groups and the group with the largest number of values is the modal group.
