Stoichiometry is essential for chemists and students to understand the quantity needed in order for a reactant to yield a certain product. It's significance is applicable in a wide variety of fields such as engineering, chemistry, research, and other applications which uses chemical reactions. Stoichiometry is basically the exact proportion of moles between the product and reactant, by which the product and reactant must have the same number of moles in order to classify it as a balance equation.

Example:

2Mg  + 02 → 2MgO

The equation is considered to be balance since,  the reactant has 2 moles of Mg, and 2 moles of O, whereas the product has also 2 moles of Mg and O.
