Newton's third law of motion states that the forces that exist between objects have equal magnitude and opposite direction. If an object or body  X exerts a force Fx on  another body or object Y, then the body Y will exert also a force Fy to body X. Hence, during this process, the two bodies are equal in magnitude, but opposite in the path or direction.
