We have these two equations and lets try and equal both sides of them since on one side of both of the equations we have y.

So we will have:

y=2x+3

y=3x+5

2x+3=3x+5

Lets put the variables on one side and the numbers on the other side. Every variable or number that will change sides, will have their sign changed from a + into a - and vice versa.

3x-2x=3-5

x=-2
