Political science is a social science discipline that deals with systems of governance, and the analysis of political activities, political thoughts, and political behavior. It extensively explores the theory and practice of politics, and the description and analysis of political systems and political behavior.

Political science is subdivided into various fields including comparative politics, political theory, international relations, public administration, and public policy, among others. In essence, political scientists study how political power is distributed, how different governments operate and interact, how rules and regulations are created and enforced, and how various political entities engage with each other and with citizens.
