Fertilization is the act of fertilizing a human egg cell, or animal egg cell, , which involves fusion of the male's sperm cell or gametes to form a zygote. The haploid gametes, which are the egg cell and sperm cell combined to form the diploid zygote.  In humans, fertilization usually occurs in the ampulla of the fallopian tube. This led to the formation a zygote, or fertilized egg, that is carried by the female until birth.
