The linear equation: y=mx+b is known as the slope-intercept, where “m” is slope of the line with respect to the x-axis (i.e. the Tangent of angle made by the line with x-axis), and “b” is known as the INTERCEPT ON Y-AXIS.

In simpler words, “b" is the point where the line cuts the y-axis or it can be called as the distance  from the origin to that point lying on y-axis which satisfies the equation of line.
