 Quadratic formula: 

 x= −b±√b^2−4(ac)/2a

We have, X^2+5x-1=

Here, a = 1, b = 5 and c = -1

Now, putting values in quadratic formula, we get

x = -5±√5^2−4(1)(-1)/2*1

x = -5±√25 + 4/2

x = -5 ±√29/2

Taking positive sign,

x = -5 + √29/2

Taking negative sign,

x = -5 - √29/2 

 

Thus, value of x are -5 + √29/2 and -5 - √29/2 .
