Let the total number of boxes be x

Then, Sam took x/6 juice boxes

So, remaining boxes = x - x/6

= 5x/6

Now, Tom took 1/4th of remaining boxes. So, Tom took 5x/24 boxes

And, remaining juice boxes = 15

So,

5x/6 - 5x/24 = 15

(20x - 5x)/24 = 15

15x = 15 × 24

x = 15 × 24/15

x = 24

Hence, total juices boxes in the start were 24.
