Let the bigger number be x and smaller number be y

Then, according to question,

x + y = 5 …..(1)

x - y = 11 ……(2)

Now, using elimination method,

Adding equation 1 and 2, we get

x + y + x - y = 5 + 11

2x = 16

x = 16/2

x = 8

Now, putting value of x in equation 1, we get

8 + y = 5

y = 5 - 8

y = - 3

Thus, the bigger number is 8 and the smaller number is -3.
