The process of photosynthesis can be split into 3 steps absorption of light, conversion of of light energy to chemical energy and breakdown of water into hydrogen and oxygen, and lastly reduction of carbon dioxide to carbohydrates. In the first steo, the green pigment chlorophyll absorbs light from the sun. Chlorophyll is located inside the thylakoid. Second step is the conversion of light energy to chemical energy. In this step, the light from the electrons coming from the solar energy it excites certain chlorophyll molecules and as a result, it sets off an event called energy trading and energy transferring event where this basically breaks down water molecules and forms 2 energy transporting molecules; nadph and atp. Also, during the second step, some oxygen from the breakdown of water becomes the plant's byproduct. The last step is the reduction of carbon dioxide to carbohydrates. In this step, Calvin cycle uses atp, nadph and co2 to produce nadp adp+p and high energy sugar or carbohydrates. Calvin cycle takes place in the stroma.
