The strong forces of attraction between the positive and negative regions of molecules are called dipole dipole attraction.

It is a common knowledge, that positive side and a negative side will attract each other, and two similar sides will repel each other. In order to identify whether the bond of two molecules is a dipole dipole, simply look at the electronegativity  difference between the atoms. If the electron difference is between 0.4 and 1.7, then it is considered a polar bond, which exhibits a dipole-dipole attraction.

Examples of Dipole-Dipole Attraction:

Carboxylic Acids (acetic acids)

Hydrogen Chloride (HCl)
