Let the width of rectangle be x

Then, according to question length of rectangle is x + 3

Area of rectangle = 154 m²

Formula

Area of rectangle = Length × Width

154 = ( x + 3)x

154 = x² + 3x

x² + 3x - 154 = 0

Using middle-term split method,

x² + 14x - 11 x - 154 = 0

x( x + 14) - 11(x + 14) = 0

(x - 11)(x + 14) = 0

So, x = 11

And, x = - 14

Since, width cannot be negative. Width of rectangle is 14 m.
