Awadh kingdom has done the subsidiary alliance with the company. According to this alliance, the kingdoms were protected by the company, but the kingdom had to pay for the 'subsidiary forces that the company was supposed to maintain for the purpose of this protection. The nawab of Awadh failed to make the payment for the subsidiary forces', therefore, in 1801, Awadh was forced to give half of his territory to the company as penalty.
