Muscle cells are typically high in the number of mitochondria. Why do you think this is the case?

Explanation: Heart muscles have numerous mitochondria, to provide sufficient energy. Heart muscles are very active and work continuously so they need more energy.

Muscle cells need energy to do mechanical work and respond quickly. Thus a higher number of mitochondria is present so that the cells requirement of energy to perform its specific function is fulfilled.

In humans, erythrocytes do not contain any mitochondria, but heart , kidneys, pancreas and muscle cells contain hundreds or even thousands of mitochondria.
