According the question

d = the no. of dimes, and q = the no. of quarters

We know there are 24 coins, so

d + q = 24……  (1)

Now we know each dime is worth .10 and each quarter is worth .25.  In total, they are worth 3.75

.10 d +.25 q = 3.45

If you want to get rid of decimals, just multiply both sides by 100.

10 d + 25 q = 345  ……. (2)

d+ q = 24

q =24 - d

q = put in eq…(2)

10 d +25 (24-d) = 345

10d + 600 - 25d = 345

15d = 600-345

d= 255/15

d= 17 (Answer)
