Let the cost of shirt be x 

And, cost of tie be y

Thus, 6x + 3y = 79.50      ….1

3x + 2y = 41        …..2

 

Using Substituting method:

From equation 1

6x = 79.50 - 3y 

x = (79.50 - 3y)/6

 

Now, putting value of x in equation 2, we get

3(79.50 -3y)/6 + 2y = 41

(79.50 -3y)/2 + 2y = 41

79.50 - 3y + 4y = 82

y = 82 - 79.50

y = 2.50

 

Thus, cost of each tie is $2.50
