Genise goes to the store to buy some apples and oranges. She bought a total of 22 fruits for $86. If apples are $3 each and oranges are $5 each, how many apples and how many oranges did Genise buy? Create a system given the context. Then solve the system by graphing

let the numbers of apples Genise bought=x

and number of oranges Genise bought= y

total fruits =22

so, x+y=22   (equation 1 )   ( by adding number of apple and orange, gives total number of fruits)

and, total amount => 3x+5y=86 (equation 2)

now, from equation 1 ……. x+y=22 value of x=22-y (equation 3)

put this value in equation 2 ……… 3x+5y=86 => 3(22-y)+5y=86

          66-3y+5y=86

            2y=86-66

             2y=20

               y=20/2

                y=10 (number of oranges )

put this value in equation 3…….. x=22-y => x=22-10

         x=12 (numbers of apples)

now, here the number of apple Genise bought are 12 and number of orange Genise bought are 10.
