Given the length of the jumping frogs bodies in centimeters.

20.3 , 12.5 , 7.6 , 17.5 , 15.6 , 14.1

Determine the median and the mean.

Solution:

In order to find the median and the mean, we must arrange first the given lengths in an ascending order from least to greatest.

7.6, 12.5 ,14. 1, 17. 5, 20. 3

To solve for the mean, it is the same as calculating the average of a given numbers. this can be done by adding all the given numbers, and divide them by how many total numbers there are, represented by n.

Since we are given 6 numbers,  n = 6

=( 7.6 + 12.5 + 14. 1 +  17. 5 +20. 3)/6

 = 72 / 6

= 12

The mean length of the jumping frogs bodies is 12 cm.

In order to find the median, simply look for the middle number. Since we are given two middle numbers, we simply need to add both numbers and divide by 2

7.6, 12.5 ,14. 1, 17. 5, 20. 3

The middle numbers are 14.1 and 17.5

=14.1 + 17.5

= 31.6/2

= 15.8

The median length of the jumping frogs bodies is 15.8 cm.
