So we have a simple equation 9+a/6=8 and in order to solve it, we need to find out the value of our unknown variable, in our case a.

Lets try to put unknown values on one side and the numbers on the other sides. Every number or variable that will switch sides, will switch its sign from + to - and vice versa.

a/6 = 8-9

a/6 = -1

Multiply both sides with 6.

6a/6 = -1*6

a=-6
