Using elimination method :
Multiplying equation 1 by 2, we get
6x + 16y = 60 …3
Subtracting equation 2 from 3, we get
6x + 16y - 6x - 7y = 60 - 6
9y = 54
y = 54/9
y = 6
Putting value of y in equation 1
3x + 8(6) = 30
3x + 48 = 30
3x = 30 - 48
3x = -18
x = -18/3
x = -6
Hence, value of x and y are -6 and 6 respectively.
