So lets try and create an equation based on the information that we have. We will call X the number of erasers that we bought.
2+4x=22
Lets put the variables on one side and the numbers on the other side. Every variable or number that will change sides, will have their sign changed from a + into a - and vice versa.
4x=22-2
4x=20
Divide both sides with 4.
4x/4 = 20/4
x=5 erasers
