You are going to decorate one wall of your bedroom by putting neon lights along the top. The wall is a square wall with an area of 256 inches. What is the length of the lights you need for the top of this wall? How long would the lights need to be if you wanted to go all the way around the wall? There’s 2 questions in need to be answered. can someone explain and answer them for me ? I’m very tired and need help.

Given: Area of the a square wall = 256 inches squared(it must be squared since we are talking about the area)

Formula for Area of Square wall: A=l^2, where l is the length of one side of a square, since all lengths in the square is equal.

Since we only the area is given, in order to find for l, we must equate the formula to the value of l.

A=l^2

Take the square root of both sides in order to cancel out l^2

l=√A

Equation:

l=√256

l=16 inches

The length of the lights from each side of the wall is 16 inches.

To cover the whole square wall, we multiply 1 side by 4, since the measurement of 1 side is similar with all 4 sides.

16x4=64 inches

The lights need to be 64 inches if it needs to cover all the way around the wall.
