Formula :

x = [-b ± √(b² - 4ac)]/2a

We have,

x²+4x+3=0

Ax² + Bx + C = 0

Here,

A = 1

B = 4

C = 3

So, putting values in formula. We get,

x = [-4 ± √(4² - 4(1)(3))]/2× 1

x =  [-4 ± √(16 - 12)]/2

x = [ -4 ± √4]/2

x = [-4±2]/2

Taking positive sign,

x = [-4 + 2]/2

x = -2/2

x = -1

Now, taking negative sign, we get

x = [-4 -2]/2

x = -6/2

x = -3

 

Hence, x = -1 and x = -3
