- Newton's First Law of Motion states that a body at rest will remain at rest unless an outside force acts on it, and a body in motion at a constant velocity will remain in motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an outside force.
- Newton's first law, often called the law of inertia, states that an object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force. In other words, an object will not change its motion without a force acting on it. So if there's no push or pull acting on an object (meaning no net force), its current state of motion won't change.
