Working her way through school, Julie works two part-time jobs for a total of 35 hours a week. Job A pays $6.10 per hour, and Job B pays $7.40 per hour. How many hours did she work at each job the week that she made $235.60? (Round to two decimal places if necessary.)

Let the number of hours worked in job A be x

And, number of hours worked in job B be y

Then , according to question

X + y = 35     …1

6.10x + 7.40y = 235.60      ….2

Multiplying equation 1 bt 6.10, we get

6.10x + 6.10y = 35 × 6.10

6.10x + 6.10y = 213.50      ….3

Subtracting 3 from equation 2, we get

6.10x + 7.40y - 6.10x - 6.10y  = 235.60 - 213.50

1.30y = 22.10

y = 22.10/1.30

y = 17

Now, putting value of y in equation 1

x + 17 = 35

x = 35 - 17

x = 18

So, she worked 18 hours at job A and 17 hours at job B.
