Babylonian empire was conquer by the Persians under the rule of Cyrus the Great. In 539 BCE, Babylon empire fell at the Battle of Opis.
It was said that Babylon's walls were well fortified so the Persians devised a plan where they diverted the course of Euphrates River. The walls was finally vulnerable and  the Persians conquered Babylonian Empire.
