In measuring a weight of an object/organism, it is ideal to use the SUI metric system for weight which is gram (g), kilogram (kg), pound(lb) and ton (t)

Since an elephant is a very large animal, it appropriate to use either ton (t) or kilogram (kg) to determine it's weight, it still may depend on whether what type of measurement you, are most convenient to use.
