The slope of a line can be determine by using the formula,

If given two points:

m = change in x/change in y

m =y2 - y1 /x2 - x1

If given one point:

m = y/x

m = rise over run.

Example
Determine the slope of the point (-1, 3)

Since we are given one point, we use m  = y/x

m = y/x

m = 3/-1

m = -3
