Slave trade : The business or process of capturing, transporting, and selling human beings into chattel slavery, especially Black Africans brought to the New World prior to the mid-19th century.

Slavery:  condition in which one human being was owned by another. A slave was considered by law as property, or chattel, and was deprived of most of the rights ordinarily held by free persons.

The slave trade and slavery are distinguished by their magnitude, their duration and the violence that accompanied them.
