What is the difference between explicit and implicit meanings?

Explicit meaning is the clear, direct, and straightforward expression of information, ideas, or feelings, where the words used leave little to no room for confusion or ambiguity. When something is stated explicitly, it is fully articulated and leaves little to no question about what is being communicated. For instance, if a rule states "No running in the hallway," it is an explicit instruction not to run in the hallway.

Implicit meaning, on the other hand, refers to the indirect, suggested, or hinted meaning that lies beneath the surface of what is actually said or written. It is not directly stated, but can be inferred from the context, expression, or tone. This requires the reader or listener to read between the lines or to interpret the underlying message or sentiment. For example, if someone were to say, "The lake looks inviting today," implicitly, they might be suggesting that it would be a good idea to go swimming, even though they haven’t said it outright.
