To solve for the sum of the numbers 3/5 and 3/8,  calculate as the least common multiple of the both denominators first. Since the denominator are 5 and 8, the LCM is 40. Hence,
= 3x8/ 5x8 + 3x5/ 8x5
= 24/ 40 + 15/40
Since the fractions is now expressed with common denominator, add the fractions 24/ 40 and 15/40.
= 24/ 40 + 15/40
= 24+ 15/ 40
=  39/40
Since 39/40 cannot be reduced, then 39/40 is the simplest form.
