Let the two welders work for x and y hours respectively.

x + y = 46         ……….(1)

34x + 39y =1669        ……(2)

Solving eq. (1) and eq. (2) by substitution method:

from equation (1), we have x + y = 46

 y = 46 - x            ……(3)

Putting value of y in equation (2), we get

34x + 39(46 - x) = 1669

34x + 1794 - 39x = 1669

-5x = 1669 - 1794

-5x = -125

dividing both sides by -5

-5x/-5 = -125/-5

x = 25

now putting value of x in equation (3)

y = 46 - 25

y = 21

Therefore, one welder work for 25 hrs and one welder worked for 21 hrs.
