Let the two numbers be x and y, then
x - y = 48 . . . Eq(1)
x + y = 60 . . . Eq(2)

Eq(2) - Eq(1)

(x+y=60) -(x-y =48)

-2y = -12

y = -12/-2

= 6
From (1),

x - 6 = 48

x = 48 + 6

= 54

Therefore, the two numbers are 54 and 6.
