There were 820 orange buttons in a container. The number of orange buttons was 160 fewer than the number of yellow buttons and 210 more than the number of green buttons. 1/3 of the total number of buttons in the container were blue buttons. How many buttons were there altogether?

Given :

Number of orange buttons = 820

Now, according to question number of orange button is 160 fewer than yellow button, so number of yellow button = 820 + 160

= 980

And, number of green button is 210 more than orange button, = 820 - 210

= 610

Now, let the number of blue button be x, and according to question number of blue button is ⅓ of total button. So,

1/3(820 + 980 + 610 + x) = x

1/3(2410 + x) = x

Isolating x 

x = 1205

So, the total number of buttons = 820 + 980 + 610 + 1205

= 3615
