We have our equation in a written form, now lets try to write it mathematically.

We have our one side of the equation which is 7y–2 and now this side is 10 more than 2y, or lets say 2y is 10 less 7y–2.

Lets write down this equation then:

7y–2 = 2y-10

Lets put the variables on one side of the equation and the numbers on the other side. When a variable or a number will change sides, their sign will switch from a + into a - and vice versa.

7y-2y=-10+2

5y = -8

Lets divide both sides with 5.

5y/5 = -8/5

y= -8/5
