Answer: Organisms in a community are interdependent because they need each other to survive. For example, some animals rely on plants as a source of food. Other animals in the community may not directly eat the plants, but they may eat the animals which do eat the plants. When one member of the community becomes ill or is removed, it directly or indirectly impacts the rest of the members of the community. 

It is when an organism can survive without depending on anything. That is, they carry out essential life functions independently. Example- Unicellular organisms.
