Let the width be x cm

Then, Length of rectangle be (x-8) cm

Area of rectangle = 240 cm²

Area of rectangle = Length × width

240 = (x-8) (x)

240 = x² - 8x

x² - 8x - 240 =0

x² -20x + 12 x - 240 =0

x(x-20) + 12(x -20) =0

(x + 12) (x -20) =0

So, x = -12 and x = 20

Width cannot be negative so, width = 20

And Length = 20 - 8 = 12

Thus, dimensions of rectangle are (12,20)
