The human body contains many different types of glands; glands that secrete digestive enzymes, mucus, and sweat. These secretions are modified, sorted, and packaged for later release from gland cells. What cellular organelle is responsible for modifying, sorting, and packaging proteins and lipids? Correct answer is b ( Golgi body ) .

The Golgi apparatus is a central intracellular membrane organelle for trafficking and modification of proteins and lipids. Its basic structure is a stack of tightly aligned flat cisternae. In mammalian cells, dozens of stacks are concentrated in the pericentriolar region and laterally connected to form a ribbon.

The  functions are trafficking, processing, and sorting of newly synthesized membrane and secretory proteins and lipids. To best perform these functions, Golgi membranes form a unique stacked structure.
