Let x be the budget of the play and y be the expenditure for the new costumes and z be the amount of money they spend on other supplies.
Budget of 500 = new costumes + other supplies or x = y + z.
Since the new costumes(y) used 3/8 of the budget, then the amount spend on new costumes is 3/8 times 500.
> 3/8 * 500
> 1500/8
> 187.5
Then it means that y  = $187.5.
To find how much money is allocated on other supplies, subtract the total budget(x) from the total amount spend on new costumes(y)
> z = x − y
> z = 500 − 187.5
> z = 312.5
Therefore, the total amount of money the club spend on other supplies is $312.5.
