Given the equation:

x(8 + 2) + 3 = 2(5 + x) + 5(x + 1) − 6

Solve for x.

Solution:

Distribute first x, 2 and 5 to their corresponding parentehsis.

x(8 + 2) + 3 = 2(5 + x) + 5(x + 1) − 6

8x + 2x + 3 = 10 + 2x + 5x + 5 - 6

Combine similar terms

10x + 3 = 9 + 7x

Transpose  7x and 3 to the opposite sides of the equation, hence it must be taken to note that in transposing a number, the  sign changes.

10x - 7x = 9 - 3

3x = 6

Divide both sides by 3 in order to determine the value of x.

3x/3 = 6/3

x = 2

Final answer:

x = 2
