Solution:

To begin with, multiply first, -2.3 to each corresponding values inside the parenthesis. We must take note that whenever a number is multiplied to a same sign, it will become positive, hence if a number is multiplied to an opposite sign, it will become negative.

 -2.3(x - 1.2) = 9.66

-2.3x  +2.76 = 9.66

Transpose 2.76 on the other side of the equation. In transposing numbers, the sign will always change.

-2.3x = 9.66-2.76

-2.3x = 6.9

Divide both sides by -2.3 in order to get the value of x.
