Solving;
Convert the mixed number 12 3/8 to a improper fraction:
= 12 3/8 = 12 x 8 + 3/8
= 96 + 3/8
= 99/8.
Convert the mixed number 5 1/2 to a improper fraction:
=5 1/2 = 5 x 2 + 1/2
= 10 + 1/2
= 11/2
Divide 99/8 by 11/2; dont forget the reciprocal.
99/8 / 11/2 = (99/8)(2/11)
= 99 x 2/8 x 11
= 198/88
= 22 x 9/ 22 x 4
= 9/4
= 2 1/4 or 2.25.
