Let the speed of boat be x

And, speed of the current be y

Formula : Speed = distance/time

x - y = 6/1.5

x - y = 4       …..(1)

x + y =24/1.5

x + y = 16    …..(2)

now, by elimination method :

Adding equation 1 and 2, we get

x - y + x + y = 4 + 16

2x = 20

x = 20/2

x = 10

Now, putting value of x in equation 1, we get

10 - y  = 4

y = 10 - 4

y = 6

Thus, the speed of boat is 10 mph and speed of current is 6 mph
