Given the fraction:

32/9

Write as a mixed number.

Solution:

In order to write the fraction as a mixed number, we must first equate it as a decimal. This can be done by dividing the numerator with the denominator.

= 32/9

= 3.5556…

Now to convert the decimal into mixed number, we exclude first the whole number and focus of the decimal. Since we have a repeating fraction, we take one place value which is 5, and divide it with its place value, in our case we choose to divide 5 by the place value of 10 subtracted by 1 in order to have a  repeating decimal.

= 5/(10 - 1)

= 5/9

Add the the whole number in front of the fraction.

= 3 5/9

Final answer:

= 3 5/9
